A SECOND CHANCE TO LIVE
It was early in the morning on Sunday, December 1994. I had just taken some documents in a photo copy shop. I was so tired and exhausted because of lack of sleep that I rode my bike slowly. I was heading to PKM (Pusat Kegiatan Mahasiswa = Student Activity Center) when I rode on Jalan Kalimantan, Jember. I had to prepare everything related to the seminar held that day as I was the man-in-charge of it.
Getting in front of Soetardjo building, I was startled to see a car suddenly stopped without any signs. I tried to brake my bike as fast as I could but it was useless. I hit the rear part of the car. I was thrown from my bike and rolled on the street for two or three meters. I was stopped in the middle of street. I was trying to stand up when I heard a horn of vehicle sounding loudly. It was such a horrible sound I ever heard that I could do nothing. I turned my head to the source of the sound. I saw a horror appearing me. A city bus was coming toward me in a speed. I closed my eyes and expected nothing but to die soon. In my desperate situation, I said something I would not forget. It was "Subhannallah!"
The bus went toward me! I shouted by heart, "I am a died man now!"
But Allah had a different plan for me. I was truly hopeless when the bus stopped in ten or twenty inches in front of me. Some people help me walk to pavement beside the street. An old woman tried to make me calm. They were all wondered to know that I was still alive.
A destiny played upon me. Allah still allowed me to live for a second chance.
